A WORD FROM THE CEO.... It all began with a piece of collaborative research undertaken by Dourthe and
Very nice start of 2018 in the press for Dourthe Vineyards- on the launch of the many comments 90 + / 17 + obtained in 2017- with the notes of James Suckling on the vintage 2015.
After tasting about 1,300 Bordeaux 2015 in France, James Suckling and his team concluded that the 2015 vintage has lived up to its great potential in every sense. Exciting and exquisite, here are all the tasting notes for our wines:
Château Belgrave: 93/100
A dense and layered red with wet earth and blue fruits. Sweet tobacco, too. Soft tannins give this full-bodied wine a juicy richness and decadence. Plump mouthfeel. So good now but better in two or three years.
Château La Garde Rouge: 93/100
Violet, dark-berry and stone aromas follow through to a medium to full body. Linear and very fine. Tight and fresh. Precise and beautiful. A serious young red. Drink in 2022.
Château La Garde Blanc: 94/100
This is the best white from here for me ever. Mangoes, lemons and lightly cooked apples. Full-bodied, layered and very, very long. Phenolic texture and focus. Love the finish of dried bitter lemons. Drink now or hold.
Château Le Boscq: 92/100
Very spicy and fresh with floral and currant character. Full to medium body and regal structure and intensity. Chocolate, tea and berry flavors. Tannins are polished and focused. Excellent finish. Drink in 2021.
Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac: 91/100
Very floral and perfumed with blackberries and dark tea. Full-bodied, dense and structured. Chewy tannins. Lots of character. Needs two or three years to soften.
Château Rahoul Rouge: 92/100
Bright and fresh with floral and blueberry aromas as well as some pine-nut undertones. Full body, round and silky tannins and a crisp finish. Delicious bottle already. Drink or hold.
Château Rahoul Blanc: 91/100
This shows so much sherbet and lemon-rind character. Full-bodied, energetic and tangy. A lively and layered white that shows lots of semillion character.
Château Reysson: 91/100
A juicy and pretty wine with cherries, currants and limestone. Full-body, yet dense yet fresh at the same time. Iodine undertones. Lovely earthy, fruity aftertaste. A blend of 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. Drink now or hold.
Château Pey La Tour: 92/100
A firm and silky wine with chocolate, walnut and hazelnut character. Medium to full body, lovely fine tannins and a flavourful finish. Juicy and delicious. Drink in 2019 but already delicious.
Château Grand Vin de Ricaud: 91/100
This is really focused and polished for this chateau with currants and cherries and some flowers. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a bright finish. Pretty wine. Drink now.
And the best till last…..
Fabulous aromas of blackberries, blueberries, cinnamon, and perfume. Full-bodied, tight and explosive. Pulls back on the palate and then releases. A wine with complexity, depth and excitement. A blend of best wines from Belgrave, La Garde, Le Boscq and Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac. Only made in selected vintages. 6,000 bottles. A structured red for long-term ageing yet balanced and beautiful. Try in 2023.
