Alain, Stanislas and Garance Thiénot are pleased to announce that Nicolas Uriel has been appointed Thiénot Champagne’s new Cellar Manager.
Nicolas Uriel began working at Thiénot Champagne as vineyard relations manager in 2008. He learnt his craft from Laurent Fédou, the man behind the Thiénot house style since the company was founded in 1985, and the two have worked closely together to create the Thiénot blends for almost ten years.
“Having worked with Nicolas for all these years, I have every confidence in handing him the responsibility for continuing to create the Thiénot style,” Laurent Fédou told us.
Forty-year old Nicolas Uriel, a qualified agricultural engineer (ENSAIA) and œnologist (Montpellier SupAgro), gained his expertise in all things vine and wine related in France and worldwide while working at Cave des Vignerons de Saumur, Montana Wines (Marlborough, New Zealand), Vinsmoselle (Moselle wines in Luxembourg) and Pépinières Guillaume, where he was responsible for Burgundy and the Côte des Bar region in Champagne.
(Local/vineyard version: In addition to his new duties, Nicolas Uriel will continue to take charge of vineyard relations for the Champagne branch of Thiénot Bordeaux-Champagnes.)
In the words of Stanislas Thiénot:
“Having worked alongside Laurent Fédou for ten years, Nicolas has the knowledge and experience to create the house style of the wines of our family business for many years to come. Nicolas knows and understands the vineyards, and the work involved, and is a very good people manager, so we have every confidence that he will do a very good job.”
Laurent Fédou will now devote himself full-time to his duties as Cellar Manager of Canard-Duchêne Champagne, which Alain Thiénot bought over in 2003. He will also take on the role of international ambassador to develop the business and raise its profile worldwide.
Thiénot Champagne is an independent family business founded by Alain Thiénot in 1985. Today, Alain is supported by his children Garance and Stanislas.
