Rohrendorf (Austria)
Weingut Gottfried Mittelbach

The Gottfried Mittelbach winery is by Rohrendorf in the Göttweiger mountains. The region, Kremstal, is well known for its Grüner Veltliner. The vineyards are located at approximately 70km west of Vienna.

The business is now run by the 3rd generation member of the family, Gottfried Mittelbach Jnr. Gottfried took over the vineyard on the 1st of April 2014, having worked within the family owned company since his childhood. Being a family-owned company is always very close to our hearts!

They run and cultivate 20 hectares of vineyards and there is no use of pesticides.

They are especially known for their “Gelber Muskateller“ (yellow Muscat), and varieties of Grüner Veltliner.

The wines are preliminary put into steel tanks, but now they aim to produce some of the Pinot Blanc in oak barrels. They use oak barrels for their reds (600 to 8,000 litres)

“When tasting the Grüner Veltliner from this region, we were conscious of the Löss soil which give the wines their typical character. The predominant soil here is the Löss, but some of the wines also grow on stony and sandy grounds. We selected their cuvée Rosshimmel, a beautiful Grüner Veltliner, with floral character and great acidity. We also loved their Riesling Prestige and their Pinot Noir, which display plenty of delicious fruit.”
