The Lawson’s Dry Hills Team has recovered from harvest and is busy making wine! They were pleased with the fruit and are very pleased with the wines now. They tasted a  2022 Sauvignon Blanc blend, and it was clearly and unmistakably Marlborough and will delight lovers of the style!

“Despite some challenges, we have been able to produce wonderful wines that show what a great region Marlborough is.
A combination of staff shortages, working with Covid protocols, some cool weather and unwanted rain events meant some difficulties for the region, however we always plan for the worst and hope for the best and this is where our autonomy is so important. With our own harvesting team (including a harvester) and good press capacity, we can pick quickly when required and be patient when we need to be. These attributes come to the fore in a vintage like 2022.” Lawson’s Dry Hills winemaking Team

2022 HARVEST REPORT BY MARCUS WRIGHT, SENIOR WINEMAKER

SAUVIGNON BLANC

This year’s wines will offer the trademark, crisp acidity together with a citrus and herbaceous character and underlying passionfruit. These wines have the distinctive ,Marlborough, lifted aromas and varietal flavours. A big part of this is down to our managed yields, growing only on two and three canes, as opposed the industry norm of four canes.

CHARDONNAY

Great flavours and concentration, the fruit was lovely and clean. The wines will be well-balanced with good, citrussy fruit characters and a lovely balance of fresh acidity.
A little lighter than our usual, weighty style, but with the typical flavour spectrum we have come to enjoy. Stylistically, we think the wines will be off dry as usual and reflect the quince and gentle spice characters seen in the fruit.

PINOT GRIS

GEWURZTRAMINER

A good vineyard site and vine age mean that varietal intensity shines through, resulting in the typical aromatics, flavours and weight you’d expect to see in our Gewurz.

PINOT NOIR

Pinot Noir for PINK, our rose, was the first fruit into the winery. It looked really good with lovely, concentrated flavours, lifted, enticing aromas and will give the wine a delicate pale colour. The fruit for our red Pinot Noir wines, which is picked a bit later, will deliver a slightly lighter style than usual, resulting in imminently quaffable wines with the trademark red berry characters.
