Stéphane is a very talented winemaker who started producing wine in 2000. Obviously we rate him, but so does Robert Parker. We are extremely fortunate in securing supplies of two of his wonderful cuvées: Champon, originating from 3 Parcels (Champon’s, Plomb and Cognet) and barrel-aged for 24 months, and Les Grandes Places, made from a single plot on this fabulous site, matured for 36 months in new oak barriques.

Vineyard & Vinification Note

Domaine Pichat has 4.5 hectares of vineyards in several areas such as Champon’s, Cognet, le Plomb, Fongeant, la Gerine, les Grandes Places or La Caille for Condrieu. The work is different on each plot. They adapt to the type of soil and the layout and exposure of each one. The only goal is to produce the healthiest grapes and mature as much as possible. All the work in the vineyards and treatments performed are sustainable, no use of pesticide or insecticide and the vast majority of their crop protection products are certified organic.

The Domaine Pichat has in recent years acquired new temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The Domaine combines modern and traditional techniques. For the majority, maturation is done entirely in barrels of 400 litres.

Destemmed, first juice cooled 12 hours at 8-9°C, then 3-4 week vinification, pumping overs, cap punching,

Aged for 24 months in oak barrels.

Wine Advocate

The 2015 Cote Rotie Champon’s is a full-bodied, turbocharged wine, loaded with fruit, extract and tannin. Hints of graham cracker frame tapenade notes on the nose, while the flavors feature no-holds-barred layers of black fruit and power. It’s long and velvety on the finish, and while it may take 5 or so years to completely soften, it should drink well for at least a decade after that. 95 Points – Joe Czewinski December 2017

Dense cassis and blackberries alongside pink peppercorns and dried herbs. The tannins are very ripe and the acidity fresh and lively. Long, balanced finish. Drink 2020-2029. 91 Points Highly recommended – February 2018

The perfect partner to meat dishes. Beef casseroles, hearty stews, Moroccan lamb barbecues and rich sausage casseroles such as a cassoulet.
