The Muscadet Vielles Vignes Peninsula 2022 by Domaine Gadais Pere et Fils stands as a testament to the art of winemaking refined over five generations. Since the early 1950s, the Gadais family has been dedicated to crafting exceptional Muscadet wines from their vineyards in the village of Saint-Fiacre, at the heart of the Sèvre et Maine region. This prestigious wine, created only in the finest years, embodies the pinnacle of their expertise.
Crafted from a selection of the estate’s oldest vines, some of which date back to 1929, this Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie “Peninsula” benefits from a unique terroir of gneiss soil with mica, offering a distinctive mineral character. The vines, now over 50 years old, are carefully tended using sustainable farming methods, ensuring that each bottle encapsulates the purest expression of its origins.
The meticulous winemaking process involves harvesting the grapes at full maturity to capture the optimal balance of flavour and acidity. After a gentle cold static settling, the wine undergoes a slow, natural fermentation of about three weeks, followed by 14 months of ageing on lees, which lends it remarkable depth and complexity. The result is an unfiltered, unfined wine that is bursting with character and has an ageing potential of 10 years or more.
Awarded a Gold Medal and an impressive 95 points at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2024, the Muscadet Vielles Vignes Peninsula 2022 is described as “deeply savoury and charismatic, with layers of steely mineral character and a long, saline finish.” Its juicy, succulent palate is marked by a balance of weight and substance”.
