Albariño day is on the 1st of August.
The true heartland of Albariño is its birthplace – Rías Baixas – on the coast, in the Galician region, Northwest Spain.
The Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin extends over a group of areas of Galicia with a series of common physical conditions that give rise to the extraordinary characteristics of the wines of this denomination: mild temperatures, high rainfall, low altitude, Atlantic influence and influence of the Miño River.
Within the DO are five sub-zones, and Adegas Valmiñor is located in the sub-zone further south in Galicia: O Rosal.
We love Albariño Davila from Adegas Valmiñor.. It is so zesty, minerally, and so refreshing!
The three varieties we find in Davila come only from vineyards in the O Rosal area. Strains are conducted in the traditional vine, owned and exclusive to the site, with a minimum age of 40 years.
Sandy soils and alluvial deposits, with a significant presence of boulders. Production is limited by pruning to 8,000 kg/ha for Albariño and Treixadura and 6,000 kg/ha for Loureiro.
Albariño Davila 2022 has Intense and aromatic complexity on the nose, reminiscent of spring flowers wrapped in notes of mango and pineapple. The palate perfectly balances smoothness and acidity with hints of tropical fruit and aromatic herbs. An elegant and complex wine with a delicate and enveloping mid-palate.
James Suckling awarded the 2022 vintage 91 points.
The maritime influence makes it a no-brainer with fish and seafood, oysters, clams or barnacles, the delicacy in Galicia. Salty food also works well with Albariño. Think feta salad, anchovy fritters or courgette flower and anchovy in tempura. The list of gorgeous pairings is endless!
