James Suckling released his scores early September for Thiénot and it is impressive…

THIÉNOT BRUT NV

“Plenty of bright, ripe-fruit aromas here – rich peaches, pears and grilled almonds. The palate has a very composed feel and a deeper, savory attitude with light honey and grilled nuts. A lot of character for the first cuvée. 2013 base with 45 per cent reserve wine. Drink now.” 91 Points

  THIÉNOT BRUT ROSÉ NV

“Focused on fresh fruit, this blended rosé has dried, crushed roses on the nose with a chalky edge. The palate is built on acidity, showing neat, fresh pink grapefruit flavor. Super fresh. Drink now.” 92 Points

THIÉNOT BLANCS DE BLANC NV

“From an array of villages, this has a reductive edge to the nose, delivering chardonnay purity and freshness. Grilled-lemon and peach aromas and a palate that delivers limes and lemons. Hints of chalk and white peaches here, too. Taut, fresh finish. The base is from the 2014 vintage. Drink young and fresh.” 92 Points

THIÉNOT VINTAGE 2008

“Attractive hazelnut aromas with cinnamon and lemon peel. Some sous-bois and bright red flowers, too. The palate is taut, as befits the vintage, and the chardonnay really sings here with long, lemon and grapefruit flavors. Still very youthful, very fresh and very long. Drink or hold.” 94 Points

THIÉNOT CUVÉE GARANCE 2008

“Exclusively pinot noir. Dried flowers and elegant, chalky minerals, as well as earthy sous-bois and some lighter, playful pink berries. Very restrained palate. The tension is scintillating here and the finish is long and focused with pink grapefruit and blood oranges. Elegance and power! Drink in 2020.” 96 Points

THIÉNOT CUVÉE STANISLAS 2007

“Very small run, this has a super fine, lightly spiced pastry edge, lots of chalk, fruit in the yellow-mango and peach zone and some spice from autolysis. The palate is very succulent, gently fleshy and delivered in a powerful, long and tight package. Acidity supports the flesh nicely. Disgorged May 2017. Drink or hold.” 94 Points.

 THIÉNOT CUVEE ALAIN 2007

“Impressive complexity and freshness with brightly spiced peach pastry and some ripe yellow plums. The palate is very crisp, fine and steely with a composed, smooth and very polished palate. Superb completeness. Complex now, but more to come, if you can wait.” 95 Points

THIÉNOT LA VIGNE AUX GAMINS 2006

“From an old vineyard in Avize, this is produced every year and there’s a lot of character in the 2006. Aromas of ripe, exotic tropical fruit, as well as lemons and a hint of toasted coconut. The palate has a lot of pastry-like flavors. Biscuity and powerful with rich, fleshy fruit on the finish. A lot of brioche here, building toasty warmth. Another two-to-three years will take it even more in this direction. Very vinous. Very unique!” 94 Points
