Yen, the successful high-end Japanese restaurant from the St Germain des Près area in Paris, will be opening its doors at the new 190 Strand development on November 28th. We are so proud to be their House Champagne with Thiénot and also having a main feature in their wine list.
The beautifully floral and pure Grüner Veltliner from Mittelbach, Lawson’s Dry Hills tropical and herbaceous Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Raffault’s wonderfully expressive Chinon are some of the wines which will be available at Yen London by the glass.
With an elegant and understated interior, the restaurant will specialise in buckwheat Soba noodles, which will be handmade on a twice-daily basis in a bespoke glass space by the restaurant’s soba specialists, Maruno Hidenori & Katsuki Sakurai, on show to the restaurant. Both Maruno and Sakurai have trained with the “Master of Soba” Mr Takahashi Kunihiro in Yamanashi, Japan.
The kitchen creative master will be Hiyama Hiroki, who has worked in a variety of Michelin-starred restaurants across the world, including his position at 3-Michelin starred Ristorante Da Vittorio in Italy. Head Sushi Chef will be Akinori Yasuda, who has had over 20 years’ experience working in some of Japan and London’s top sushi restaurants, including a position as Head Sushi Chef at Zuma for 6 years.
Guests will be able to try the Soba cold with a variety of dips, grilled meats or tempuras, or served in hot soup with a selection of toppings. The menu will also include a substantial sushi selection, which will be served in the main restaurant and at the 8-seater sushi counter.
Main dishes will largely centre around the Robata and tempura dishes, including Yen’s signature oyster and courgette flower tempura and Wagyu steak with Ponzu sauce. Guests will also be able to choose an omakase menu, where guests are served a blind menu entirely directed by the Chef.
The drinks list has been curated by Head Bartender, Alex Frattini, and will offer a wide selection of innovative cocktails, wines and spirits, and a large variety of Japanese sakes, beers, shochu, plum wines and whiskies. Cocktails will reflect this, blending together typical Japanese flavours such as yuzu and lychee and giving an Eastern twist on classic cocktails. Included on the list will be “No. 9”, a mix of toasted sesame and coconut infused Ketel One vodka, mandarin juice, nutmeg syrup, and scorched coconut foam, and the “Yen Sparkle”, a combination of Yuzu-shu, creme de violette and sparkling wine.
