We may be confined but nature carries on and looking after the vineyards continues. Some good news at
Our friends at Mauro Molino Winery share with us news about the Harvest 2017 at the winery and the also Langhe area.
This year we have started picking considerably earlier than the norm. The grapes were in a great state of health. Dolcetto and Barbera fruits gave us wines with a beautiful and bright colour. We have wines with a good acidity, a medium-high alcohol volume, all combined with a very good balance. Nebbiolo berries for Barolo, were very healthy and perfectly ripe with a contained alcohol volume linked with beautiful fresh notes. Despite the fears at the beginning of this warm and dry summer, the 2017 vintage has given us wines showing a good elegance and an interesting balance; confirming once more how well-suited the Langhe Hills are for vine growing.
Our wines from 2017 have already a very remarkable and unique identity. Now, all we can do is wait!
In the Langhe area, the vintage 2017, will be remembered for its hot and dry climate. The vine’s vegetative development, was significantly ahead of time this year as during March we had few rainfall and above-average temperatures for the season. With May started the beginning of a long period of fine weather, maintaining a hot and dry climate through the whole summer. Between the end of August and the beginning of September, some rain helped to rebalance the water supply to the grape berries and the leaves. Starting from the first week of September, temperatures dropped appreciably. This was an essential scenery to obtain the perfect maturation of Nebbiolo as a grape.
