Gevrey-Chambertin (Burgundy) Domaine Trapet Père et Fils (Biodynamic)
We have proudly been representing Domaine Trapet in the UK since 1995.
Wine is one of the most civilized subjects – the Trapet family is one of its passionate craftsmen.
One foot in Burgundy, one in Alsace, the Trapet family aims to translate and pass on all the expressions of the grape and the terroir, such as the know-how transmitted to them from generation to generation.
Jean-Louis, the seventh generation, joined his father Jean at the estate in 1986. he made his first cuvée entirely alone in 1990 and has run the estate since then with his wife Andrée, who took over her Alsatian family estate in 2003.
One critical change made at the Domaine was the conversion to biodynamic viticulture, fully farmed under biodynamic principles since 1996 and certified biodynamic in 2009.
Jean-Louis is charming, very open-minded, cultivated, and passionate. He has a very open vision of innovative ideas and leaves a lot of freedom to his children, as his father, Jean, left him. Andrée is very involved and fully committed to the Burgundy Domaine, even if her roots are Alsatian. She has the same spirit as Jean-Louis. Jean-Louis balances tradition and innovation, constantly questioning and experimenting to get the best out of their vineyards and make the best wines.
Their sons Pierre and Louis have been in charge of the vines in Riquewihr since 2017 and help with the day-to-day operations in Gevrey.
If we describe the Trapet wines in a few words, it would be elegant, refined, superb and pure expression of terroir and fruit, a sense of belonging to a vineyard and expression of Pinot Noir at its best. The quality at Domaine Trapet is outstanding up and down the hierarchy of their vineyard holdings. Whether it is Chambertin Grand Cru, the epitome of aromatic elegance, the silky Chapelle-Chambertin or the very pretty Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée Ostréa, it is quite a memorable experience.
