Vineyard & Vinification Note

Manachiara vineyard located in the municipality of Montalcino with a southeast exposure at approximately 300 m a.s. Soil: Sands rich in quartz and Pliocene clays. Spurred cordon with 4,500 plants/ha. Manual harvest in the first half of October with careful selection of the finest grapes. Total destemming; fermentation and maceration for at least 20 days at a controlled temperature of 28/30°C. Maturation for 12 months in French oak barriques (Allier), followed by 18 months in large oak barrels from Slavonia. Subsequent ageing in bottles for more than a year

Tasting Note

Intense, deep ruby red colour with slight garnet highlights. Clean, intense and complex aromas with hints of ripe fruit, accompanied by floral notes, enhanced with a delicate spicy component. On the palate offers a mellow first impact that continues with an assertive evolution, supported by the right degree of acidity. Has great structure supported by supple, sweet and enveloping tannins with a very good length. An excellent wine to lay down.

James Suckling Tasting Note

A chewy Brunello with linear and lightly austere tannins that buttress the bright fruit character. Medium body, silky tannins and a vivid finish. Beautiful intensity. Drink now. 93 Points – February 2017

Wine Spectator Tasting Note

This is muscular, with dense tannins providing a base for black cherry, plum, violet, tar and tobacco flavors. The tannins are assertive, yet also fresh and resonant. Long aftertaste. Best from 2021 through 2035.  93 Points – June 2017

Wine Enthusiast Tasting Note

Star anise, forest floor, mature dark-skinned fruit and a whiff of menthol perfume this structured red. The taut, full-bodied palate offers dried black cherry, liquorice and pipe tobacco flavours, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins. 91 Points

The Wine Advocate Tasting Note

This single-vineyard expression of Sangiovese boats a beautiful, dark ruby color. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneto Manachiara is a robust and shapely wine. The bouquet offers dark cherry, cassis, cola, tobacco and grilled rosemary twig. But like the others wines from Tenute Silvio Nardi released this year, there is a bitter or sour note that stands out against the more delicate flavor profile of the wine. My hope is that it will find better integration with time. 89 Points – Monica Larner, February 2017
