Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac 2018, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

13.5% ABV

Category: France, Bordeaux, Dourthe Vineyards, 2018

“Dark berries, olives, graphite and violets. Some tar, too. It’s full-bodied with a savory, fleshy texture. Balanced and elegant, yet the tannins are still a bit tight. Flavorful, but rather short finish. Try after 2023, to allow it it open.” 91 Points, James Suckling, January 2021

Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac is situated on the stony clay-flint terrace known locally as ‘Graves de Saint-Emilion’ (Saint-Emilion stones), which stretches to the north west of the village towards the communes of Libourne and Pomerol. The region is reputed notably for its high quality, extremely delicate, elegant wines.
Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac is defined to a greater extent by its elegance and finesse than its robust structure. It delights with its balance and aromatic purity underpinned by delicate tannins and careful ageing.

Tasting Note

With its very deep ruby appearance, the 2018 vintage delivers powerful, complex notes, where the intensity of violet aromas, so typical of Cabernet Franc grown on this terroir, dominates the bouquet and intermingle with red berry fruits. The wine is concentrated on the palate, supported by fine-grained tannins and savoury mouthfeel, while the texture is likened to the smoothest silk. Extremely well-balanced on the mid-palate, it culminates in a lingering finish of great elegance and finesse. A truly impressive Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac
