Established in Morey-Saint-Denis, the Amiot Family has worked in vines and wines for over ten generations. Grandfather Pierre established the Domaine’s identity by creating the first label in 1976. His son, Jean-Louis, was the artisan of recognition for the Domaine from the 1980s. His wife, Chantal, came to support him in 2012. Today, their son Léon wishes to perpetuate the family tradition: the three roses that appear on the label recall the motto “Sans varier” of the Counts of Vergy, carrying on “without changing” to express the excellence of their terroirs.

100% Pinot Noir

Vineyard & Vinification Note

The Domaine extends over 5 hectares from Gevrey-Chambertin as far as Chambolle-Musigny.
Its name comes from the topography of the clos « qui est sur la roche.» Another hypothesis is that a rock at this place may have been linked to a druidic or Celtic cult. This appellation has existed at the Domaine Amiot for at least four generations.

The vines face east and southeast, at an elevation between 270 and 300 m. They lie on brown limestone soils with rocks and gravel. Le Clos de la Roche is situated in Morey-Saint-Denis, south of the Combottes, side-by-side with the Clos-Saint-Denis. At Domaine Amiot, le Clos de la Roche is shared over three parcels: at the top of the slope at the lieu-dit « Monts luisants », a parcel mid-slope in the « Fremières » and at the bottom of the hill and lieu-dit « les Chabiots ».

Location: The parcels are spread over 3 specific lieu-dit areas.

Surface area: 0.5612 hectare

Age of vines: Planted from 1965 to 1982

Yield: 42 HL/Ha

HVE3 Certified (high environmental value certificate)

From vine growing to vinification, each process is balanced as a function of the vintage to create the best wines and preserve terroir typicity. Ageing is in oak barrels with 50% new oak.

Here the wood treatment is somewhat more prominent though it is still reasonably discreet and easily allows the spicy nose of plum, dark currant and humus to be appreciated. There is fine volume and punch to the caressing yet powerful middleweight plus flavors that culminate in a dusty, palate coating and impressively lingering finale. This too will need to add depth to achieve the upper end of my projected range. 91-94 Points, January 2023

Food Pairing

This wine possesses the power and aromatic richness ideal for enhancing red meats, game dishes in a sauce, and all mature cheeses.
