Domaine Fond Croze Côtes-du-Rhône Villages “Romanaise” Vaison La Romaine 2020 (Organic)

14.5% ABV

£19.95

Category: France, RHÔNE, Domaine Fond Croze, 2020

“Romanaise” is a selection of Grenache with a very good maturity. Elegant, fine and silky characterizing this flagship grape variety of the Rhône Valley.

“Not yet bottled, the 2020 Côtes Du Rhône Villages Vaison-La-Romaine Romanaise is all Grenache brought up in used barrels. It has a cooler climate vibe in its bright strawberry, black raspberry, candied violets, and white pepper aromatics, and this carries over to the palate, where the wine is well-structured, medium-bodied, and nicely focused.” 91/93 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, January 2022.

Domaine Fond Croze was established in 1918 by Charles Long. Now in its fourth generation, this family business is run by brothers Daniel (Vineyard Manager) and Bruno Long (Winemaker).  Daniel looks after the 70-hectare vineyard and takes care to apply viticulture that respects the environment. Their vineyard was converted to organic farming in 2009. Bruno perfects himself in the field of oenology and elaborates today cuvées of excellence and character.

Grape

100% Grenache

Vineyard & Vinification Note

This wine comes from the vineyard in Saint-Roman-De-Malegarde. Its exposure on the northern slope of the hill offers a magnificent freshness.

Terroir: Vineyard of Saint-Roman-De-Malegarde, stony clay-limestone hillsides, with a North-West exposure offering a slight freshness in the mouth. Cuvée made with old Grenache vines.

The harvest is sorted and destemmed. The vinification is long to allow an optimal extraction and is done in concrete vats. Ageing in French oak barrels of 350 litres for one year.

Tasting Note

Very intense, ruby red colour with purplish reflections. On the nose, aromas of intense fruit, liquorice, and spices. In the mouth, a remarkable power. Elegant and very long in retro-olfaction with a spicy aromatic finish. Ageing potential: 4 to 7 years

Decanter Magazine

Ripe, rich, powerful juicy strawberry and blackberry fruit. Surprisingly powerful, even for a named village, this has great concentration and will really satisfy those looking for a robust southern Rhone to see them through the winter, thanks to its warming alcohol. Could easily pass for a top southern cru. Enjoyably chewy and dense tannins complete the picture. Good value, 100% Grenache. Organic. Drink 2023-2028. 92 Points, Matt Walls
