The Domaine Pierre USSEGLIO is a family business, created in 1948 by Francis USSEGLIO from Italy and is one of the most well-regarded producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This first-class Domaine is now run by Pierre Usseglio’s sons Jean-Pierre and Thierry. They own 39 hectares of vineyards, including 24 of Châteauneuf-du-Pape red, with some of the best locations in the region.

Vineyard & Vinification Note
The parcels are spread over the entire area of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
The various locations boast four different types of terroir which has great impact on the complexity in the wines. There are lime-rich, cool locations as well as dry, warm sandy soil.
24 hectares of Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge.
The vines are between 35 and 75 years old.
Harvest is done by hand.
This red Châteauneuf-du-Pape is made in the traditional way. The grapes harvested manually, are destemmed at 60%. Fermentation is followed by thermoregulation, it lasts from 25 to 35 days.
The wines are aged in oak barrels, in 1/2 muids, in concrete vats and barrels over a period of 12 months.
Tasting Note
Bright dense red colour. The nose has intense aromas of ripe red and black fruit mixed with spices. The palate is silky, good tannins with beautiful rich blackberry and blueberry aromas. Spicy notes are more present on the palate than the nose. A very powerful but elegant wine. It is a concentrated and structured wine that is made for ageing.

A blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre, and 5% Cinsault that was completely destemmed, the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape reveals a saturated ruby color as well as a rocking bouquet of black raspberries, hints of cassis, ground pepper, garrigue, and crushed flowers. It’s full-bodied and beautifully pure, with good acidity and a great finish. A hedonistic fruit bomb with balance, class, and length, drink it over the coming 10-15 years. Maturity: 2019 2034– 92-94 Points, August 2019
Wine Spectator
Ripe but streamlined in feel, with cassis and cherry reduction notes leding the way, flanked by an applewood edge and picking up lively tobacco and garrigue details through the finish. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2032. 2,900 cases made; 800 cases imported. 92 Points, James Molesworth, web only 2021
Wine Advocate
Hints of cinnamon and clove accent dark, plummy fruit on the nose of the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape. Showing the domaine’s characteristic ripeness and opulence, it’s plush and broad in the mouth, even a bit creamy textured, then finishes on notes of Mexican chocolate. Produced from tiny yields of approximately 15 hectoliters per hectare, it should drink well for at least a decade. 91 Points, Joe Czerwinski, September 2020
Food Pairing
A great pairing to charcuterie, red meat, game, a mushroom fricassee and cheeses.
