Description
Domaine Trapet comprises some of the best Grand Crus vineyards in Alsace. Like their Burgundy relatives, the wines are all about finesse and elegance. They are characterised by purity, solidity, minerality, density like a diamond, viscosity, and verticality, and everything is wrapped by delicacy and softness.
Andrée Trapet took over her parents’ vineyards in 2002. An only daughter with a profound affection for her local soil, she converted the Domaine to biodynamic methods.

Vineyard & Vinification Note
The Schlossberg hillside, at an altitude of 230 to 350 metres, stretches north of Kaysersberg and Kientzheim over the crystalline basement of the Vosges mountains. The Kaysersberg migmatites are metamorphic grauwacke-sandstones and shales from the Devonian age. At the northeastern part of the vineyard, these rocks are pierced by the intrusive granite of thannenkirch. The acid siliceous soil of excellent fertility is a weathered crystalline scree with some basic inclusions east of the old castle. The clayey coarse sand is mineral rich and determines the wines’ finesse and diversity of aromas.
Wine Advocate
Entirely sourced in terraced plots (of which two are south-facing and a third is east-facing), the 2015 Schlossberg Riesling opens with a very clear, precise and cool stony nose. On the palate this is a pure, straight and firm Schlossberg with great elegance and finesse and a compact, very persistent structure. Very clear and salty. A classic. “We always picked these parcels at the latest in the last years, often enough because the Schlossberg is not next door to Riquewihr. However, in 2015 we picked these plots at the beginning of the harvest simply because the grapes were ripe enough,” Andrée Trapet said. 92 Points, Stephan Reinhardt, June 2017
James Suckling
Ripe but also very subtle with a fascinating balance of power and cool mineral acidity. This challenging wine is just beginning to open up. With a little more fruit, it would have been rated even higher. Better from 2019 and probably has another decade of life beyond that. Made from organically grown grapes. 92 Points, May 2018
