The original company vineyard was planted in 1982 by Ross and Barbara Lawson, who launched the Lawson’s Dry Hills label some ten years later, in 1992. Today, the company’s wines include multiple varieties and their famous Gewürztraminer, all made from fruit grown in the Wairau, Waihopai, Omaka and Awatere Valleys. These different regions and carefully selected vineyard sites provide varying characteristics derived from the different soils and microclimates, giving many options when it comes to blending to that much-anticipated Lawson’s style.
Lawson’s Dry Hills Wines are leaders of sustainability in their industry. They are currently the only New Zealand wine producer to hold both Environmental Management and carbon zero accreditations. They also won a commendation at the Sustainable Business Awards in the Climate Action Leader category and the Excellence in Sustainability Award at the New Zealand International Business Awards.
Rising 422 metres, Mt Vernon is one of the peaks towering above Marlborough in the Wither Hills, just behind the winery here at Lawson’s Dry Hills. Named after this local landmark, the wines under this label are accessible, approachable and rewarding with a focus on fruit purity.

Vineyard & Vinification Note
Region: Marlborough
Winemaker: Marcus Wright/Rebecca Wiffen
Vineyard and viticulture: The 2022 vintage was an early harvest that has produced wines with lifted aromatics and nice balance. This wine comes from a selection of vineyards across Marlborough, each bringing its own special character and together they combine to produce something special.
Winemaking: Each block was picked individually and after gentle pressing, was then fermented separately with yeast selected to enhance the wine’s fruity character. After fermentation, we selected the best tanks for blending to create this wine.
Cellaring: Enjoy while young and fruity – over the next 12-24 months.
Tasting Note
This wine is a pure expression of a clean, crisp Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Vibrant aromatics of citrus and passionfruit are balanced by gentle herbaceous notes, while the palate is fresh and dry with lovely depth and juicy fruit flavours. Vegan friendly wine.
