Created in 1988 from the unison of Dourthe and its most skilled partner winemakers and grape growers, Dourthe N°1 has rapidly carved its niche as a shining example of great Bordeaux wine. Selecting only the finest plots, using grapes of irreproachable quality, applying stringent vinification methods in the Dourthe N°1 white and rosé wines whilst ageing the reds for 12 months in new French oak barrels for the red, all amount to exceptional results, acclaimed by the press and the trade alike.
Dourthe N°1 has a distinctive style and a strong personality, largely as a result of the global approach that no other negociant had dared to undertake until this point. Dourthe’s involvement at each step of its creation is truly pioneering.
Vineyard & Vinification Note
Vineyard & Vinification Note:
For N°1 Bordeaux Red, the remarkable task of seeking out the finest terroirs is also undertaken in the extensive Bordeaux vineyard to pinpoint exactly those areas where Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon have the best chance of reaching full maturity. Forging strong partnerships with growers guarantees optimal and consistent fruit quality. From tending the vine all the way through to the harvest, the growers work in close collaboration with the Dourthe winemakers. The finest batches of N°1 Bordeaux Red mature 12 months in new French oak barriques where the tannins from oak integrate harmoniously with those present in the wine, adding roundness, and balance. The complex aromas are enhanced by several batches being aged to perfection in small 80 hl wooden tanks.

N°1 Bordeaux red 2020 is intense dark garnet in colour. Enticing on the nose, exuding aromas of red and black berry fruits (cherries and Morello cherries), which intermingle with delicately oaked notes. Initially fruit-laden and highly perfumed, developing generous, incredibly fresh, fleshy character on the palate. Concentrated in structure, with lovely depth, evolving against a backdrop of velvety tannins. Very well-balanced overall, culminating in a flavoursome finish of impressive length. A masterclass in powerful Bordeaux of great poise». Patrick Jestin, CEO Dourthe
