2018 will undoubtedly be remembered as a vintage of extremes.
Record rainfall in the first half of the year, unprecedented disease pressure across the Bordeaux vineyards, and one of the driest and hottest summers in recent decades. With the return of fine weather and disease pressure at bay, the year culminated in an extremely smooth harvest, allowing growers to breathe a sigh of relief after a particularly testing year. I would like to make a special mention to all the Dourthe teams for their daily commitment and relentless work ethic to maintain the vineyards in perfect balance and in excellent condition ready for harvesting, all the while subscribing to our strong environmental commitment. The resulting wines already indicate great promise, from the very start of vinifications.
Tasting the wines in barrel only serves to confirm these first impressions: 2018 could well join the ranks of the great Bordeaux vintages.
