The new generation at Mittelbach
News and Blogs

The Gottfried Mittelbach winery is by Rohrendorf in the Göttweiger mountains. The region, Kremstal, is well known for its Grüner Veltliner. The vineyards are located at approximately 70km west of Vienna.

The business is now run by the 3rd generation member of the family, Gottfried Mittelbach Jnr. Being a family-owned company is always very close to our hearts!

Gottfried took over the vineyard on the 1st of April 2014, having worked within the family owned company since his childhood.

He stands out above all through his youthful commitment and his new initiatives. He has been developing the winery further in just a few years.

“We pay attention to the right combination of old knowledge and techniques with modern ways of thinking and possibilities. This is the cornerstone of our success.” Gottfried Jnr

They run and cultivate 20 hectares of vineyards and there is no use of pesticides. Gottfried Jnr cares a great deal for the environment and is always looking for new ways to produce the Mittelbach wines in a sustainable way.

“I now also have the opportunity to pay attention to nature ? and sustainability that my previous generations have not yet been possible in this way. A great foundation on which I can build and continue with a responsibility”.

Gottfried Mittelbach senior brings all of his knowledge and many years of experience in the business. His passion lies is the vineyards and also in the cellars.

At Mittelbach, they also grow fruit and make their own jam and preserves.  Again here, like in the vineyards, they do not use herbicides. They are currently picking their apricots – take it from us, their apricot jam is pure heaven! Actually tastes of apricots.

Local product is key to the Mittelbach family. Not necessarily buying organic produce from a different area of country but buying good locally sourced produce.

They make wines that are elegant, fruit-driven and always with passion.

Their Pinot Noir 2014 – which got a Gold Medal at the Women’s Wine and Spirits Awards – is elegant, delicate and fruity. The Riesling Prestige is a trocken style, has classic elegance with fruity aromas and crisp acidity.

Their cuvée Rosshimmel is a beautiful Grüner Veltliner with floral character and great acidity.

A typical Grüner Veltliner, which shows a lot of body due to the spontaneous fermentation and characterises the loess soil very well.

“When tasting the Grüner Veltliner from this region, we were conscious of the Löss soil which give the wines their typical character“

Their wines are suitable for vegans.
